The trip to Italy comprised a unique mix of school and daily excursions. During the week we stayed in a hotel in Caorle, a seaside resort on the Adriatic Sea. Each morning students attended custom-tailored classes at “Il Faro Center for Italian Language and Culture”. In the afternoons they were led on guided tours exploring the surrounding area of Veneto including Treviso, Portogruaro, Concordia and of course Venice.
In addition to traditional walking tours, we also rode a ‘bragozzo’, a traditional Venetian boat, around the lagoon of Caorle to “l’Isola dei Pescatori” (Fisherman Island). The highlight of the week was a full day in Venice, visiting St Mark’s Basilica and the Ducal Palace. We visited glassblowing workshops and lacemaking boutiques and took a  gondola ride through Venice’s picturesque canals.
Day 1: Arrival in Caorle!
After a long flight we arrived in Caorle, a beautiful medieval town of about 10,000, located along the Adriatic coast. Here we attended italian classes in the morning, and launched our day trips to cities in the Veneto region.
Day 2: Il primo giorno di scuola

After a well deserved, full-night’s rest we began our first complete day in Caorle. The weather was beautiful, cool mornings warming to the high 60s in the full sun.  Our hotel continued to feed us very well, with a traditional three course Italian meal for lunch and dinner. In the morning we were treated to an enormous prima colazione (the Sanguinello juice and local pane al cioccolato were particular popular).
A quick 15 minute walk from L’Hotel Venezia took us through the winding streets of Il Centro Storico and brought us to our school, located just off a central piazza.  Il Faro was very charming – immaculately maintained by Liviana and her staff. The instructors Liviana, Barbara and Martina met our students cheerfully and began the week’s lessons. Later that afternoon our local guide lead us through the old sites in town and give us an up-close history of Caorle’s medieval past.
 .
Day 3: Beyond Caorle, Treviso
By day three we had finally settled into our week and the day-to-day routine of morning classes and afternoon excursions.  News from Il Faro was very positive, our students were making real improvements in their oral skills and their instructors were very pleased with their enthusiasm toward the Italian language.
After classes, and another enormous pranzo of fried calamari and pasta pomodoro e mozzarella, we ventured beyond Caorle to the picturesque walled medieval city of Treviso, about an hour west of Carole. There we encountered the 13th century Romanesque Chiesa di San Francesco, famous for its original medieval frescos and its vaulted ceiling, borrowed from boat designs of the era. Later we explored the enormous Cattedrale di San Pietro di Apostolo, noted for its massive dome and Titian masterpiece, the altarpiece “L’Annunziata”. In all we left very impressed with Treviso, in many ways a preview of Venice, with a labyrinth of streets, crisscrossed with canals.
 Day 4: Beyond Caorle, Portogruaro
After another morning of classes and an incredible stop for pizza we were off to Portogruaro, a charming medieval town about an hour north of Caorle. There we met the lovely Elena, our local guide for the day, who led us on a wonderful walk through town, highlighting all of the major sites. First stop was the Parco della Pace, dotted with aromatic “glicine” (wisteria) in full bloom.
Later we made our way to the Museo Nazionale Concordiese, which hosts a fantastic collection of 1st century Roman artifacts.  The group was very impressed but wondered where all the noses and heads had run off to! Next we made our way toward the center of town, la Piazza della Repubblica, under the shadow of a less famous leaning torre, the Campanaria.
Like Treviso, Portogruaro is laced with waterways and canals, although swifter. Our group really enjoyed the walk along the waterwheels and locks that redirect and harness the power of the current. Finally we took a well-deserved rest in the grassy shade within the courtyard of the very old Liceo Marconi, originally built as a lazzaretto (a renaissance era isolation ward).
After the break and a little shopping (and gelato-ing), we hopped a local bus to see Concordia, the original site of the Roman artifacts we saw earlier in the day. Our students really enjoyed the up-close window into ancient Roman-life.

Day 5: Caorle’s bragozzi and casoni
After classes, we explored the canals and waterways around Caorle in a bragozzo (a traditional fishing boat), stopping to visit one of the ancient island communities that dot Venezia’s lagoons. There we were given access to one of the island’s casoni (a reed-thatched house once used by local fishermen) owned for generations by the family of our captain Riccardo.
Day 7: Arrivederci!
After a long journey we finally arrived in Venice, a site one will not easily forget.  We began at the Ducal Palace, exploring the golden rooms of the Serenìssima Republican government, making our way across the Ponte dei Sospiri to St Mark’s Basilica and Piazza.
After another exquisite lunch (highlighted with an excellent nutella tiramisu) we visited a nearby glassblowing workshop and traditional lace-maker shop, and then capped the entire trip off with a lazy glide through the canals in four gondolas, which emptied us into the Grand Canal at sunset – Venice did not disappoint!

Sad to leave, we said our goodbyes to the Veneto, enjoying one last stroll through Caorle’s winding streets…

Alexandra da Mosca

My friend Galina and I spent the beginning of September in a very cute town called Caorle in Italy, studying Italian in a wonderful Italian language school IL FARO Caorle - Venice

I would like to thank my Moscow school - http://italian-klub.ru/ - and my teacher Svetlana for improving my knowledge of the Italian language. Svetlana recommended that I should attend an Italian school where Italian was taught by nature language speakers. That’s why I chose this place and school.

I would like to thank my dear friend Galina for sharing my company and for our happy Italian vacation. Grazie, cara Gala!

Of course I do thank my nice teachers Laura and Liviana from Il FARO Caorle who made our Italian lessons pass very quickly with a lot of fun and laughter. It was really a wonderful experience. The group consisted of the people from different regions of the world (Austria, Australia, Canada, GB, Germany, France) and it was fantastic that I could understand everybody. And Laura made us speak Italian much more fluently. Thank you Laura and Liviana for your good teaching and hospitality! I wish we could visit your school again asap. Hugs and kisses to you both from Russia And best regards to Barbara!

I would highly recommend this school and place to those who want to pass their vacation on the sea coast and improve their Italian at the same time!

Vita dall'Inghilterra in barca con altri studenti del Faro

I recently spent a week in Caorle at the Il Faro language school doing four hours of lessons a day. Caorle is a beautiful town, and I had the chance to learn about its long standing history during some of the activities organised by Il Faro, such as a boat ride to the lagoon and visit to the traditional fisherman's casoni. I thought this was incredible, and not something I'd have known how to find or organise on my own, and I thoroughly enjoyed the history, and the chance to get to know everyone at the school a bit better! During the week I did four hours a day of Italian lessons, with a much needed twenty minute coffee break half way through. I found the material in the classes super helpful and as they were only small I always felt like i was being given every opportunity to understand and learn and ultimately improve my Italian. On top of this everyone I encountered was helpful, friendly and easy to get along with-including at the hotel. I can't recomend this experience enough!

Cari saluti a voi e buona continuazione.Anneli

Ricordando l'80voglia Summer Festival - 20/22 luglio 2012

Ho imparato tantissimo dalle mie brave insegnanti, Laura e Liviana.

Hello, I am Jae young Lee and I come from Korea. I attended this Italian Laguage school several weeks. I am really satisfied of it because there were also a lot of advatages. First, compentent and friendly teachers! My classmates had little bit higher italian skill but my teacher explained me till I understood and almost everyday she gave us some homework that she would have corrected. It helped me so much to improve my italian. Teachers have a lot of know-how about teaching and their lectures are easy to understand. Second, make friends of different nationalities. In my class there were German friends, Island friend, also Korean(Me!) we shared information about our countries and we also still keep in touch on facebook. But, only allowed speak with italian! ;) During breaking time all teachers and students used to go cafe near school, drink italian espresso together and chat. Last, best location of school. "Faro" is locate in little city "Caorle", it's very famous city for summer holiday, and as a "little Venice" while study italian, you can feel real Italy. Many students attended the school during the morning and on evening they went to the beach to do homework, read book, swimming and tanning. Improving your italian..you can even spend holiday on the beach...you can get two benefits!! If You wanna go to learn italian I would really suggest "Faro" language school!

Dirk dalla Germania dice...

It rings... There's apparently someone on the other end, but difficult to make out. ehmmm... hallo? Who am I talking to... is there someone? Liviana, is it you? You hear the typical noise when someone is tapping on the microphone, except that it is the phone. Hallo? Thinking... oh, it can only be Liviana, must be the interference from the Alps. I have never figured out how they were able to run the cable through them...HI Liviana!!! Very nice to hear from you. I'm doing fine. Quite busy with work. When the routine embraces it's pretty much it. Time flies and it even seems to gain speed. I'm not going to embarrass myself talking in Italian, even if I think that you might be a little proud of your efforts. I've actually applied what I've learnt from you at work. Yes, work! Helps a great deal, especially during the breaks at the coffee bar. Anyway, I certainly had a super great time at Caorle - one of my favorite places in the entire Italy. And since I'm quite a bit around travelling in the country I like to pretend that I know what I'm talking about. I don't remember if I really took the time let you know how much I appreciate your teaching when I left in June this year. Your patience and your flexibility to go on a tangent with me away from the school book topic is legendary. I rarely had so much fun in class and yet really learnt something. Thank you so much for allowing this while keeping focus on teaching grammar, pronunciation, and vocabulary. Excellent job! I liked it very much indeed. Yours Dirk

My experience with the language school Il Faro is only positive. I spent there 4 weeks
and learnt many new things. The very positive thing is that you speak always Italian
and if you don´t know, the teacher always explains and explains and you get it in some
time:)
The teachers are very friendly and it´s lovely to spend with them some time extra -
trips, coffee breaks, dinners, etc.
The studying materials are also perfect and very useful.
Thank the language school Il Faro for everything, they taught me and for the great experience in my life.
I come next year sure again.

Allora... a presto simpaticissima Tereza!

Il romanticismo del cibo italiano

I have been busy planning a FESTA
in Columbia for Italian-American 's. We are in charge of the ITALIAN FRESH
MARKET
! So much work ! Thanks for everything.
Carmel Rose

It has been 2 years since I left the amazing city of Caorle, or as
Giancarlo Fornaro and I called it "Caorlefornia" in reference to my home state of California.

My experience at Il Faro was amazing and I plan on one day returning to the city to visit the friends that I made there and the culture I got to experience. I
came to Caorle in the summer of 2007 hoping to learn a little bit of Italian so I would be able to speak to my family there and when I left I felt like I had absorbed much more than what I had planned.
The classes at Il Faro are great and the ladies do a wonderful job at presenting the beautiful language of Italian.
If you want to learn and experience Italian then head to Caorle and the language school Il Faro.
Simply amazing!!

Auguriamo a JP tanta e tanta fortuna!

Questa è Diana della Pepperdine University, Malibu, California

I studied at Il Faro for one month this summer and had an amazing experience. I'm an Italian major at a university in California, and I was looking for an Italian language school for foreigners so I could keep up with the language during the summer. Attending Il Faro was the best decision I could have made! Caorle is a beautiful beach town near Venice and a perfect place for anybody to learn Italian. I have previously attended different immersion programs in Italy, but those didn't even come close to the experience I had at Il Faro. One of the many great things about this school is that the owners, Liviana, Laura, and Barbara, teach the classes. With the guidance of Il Faro, I stayed at a wonderful hotel where the owners became like family to me. The Sunday market, live music in the town center, bicycle excursions to nearby towns, and the view of the sunset from the boardwalk are just a few lasting memories of my summer in Caorle. I can't wait to go back to and visit the wonderful ladies at Il Faro!
